For some reason I’m feeling somewhat undecided about our excursion today, perhaps because we have the meeting with the educators at 2pm. Maybe we can go after the meeting or else save it for tomorrow morning? I do think it’s important to do what we feel, being aware though of not using this as an excuse to put things off.
We meet with the Museum Educators, in a back office at the Palácio das Artes. It’s a beautiful building and a nice group of people. We describe our work to them (both Pilar and I present in Spanish) which is especially a challenge without any visual aids. They are very receptive to our projects, and a number of them stay afterwards and express interest in taking us to various parts of the city and collaborating.
Back at the studio, masses of paid campaigners have taken over Praça Sete with their flags. It’s campaign season before the upcoming Presidential election on Oct 5, 2014 and one of the candidates is from Belo Horizonte.
Experimental methodology – bridging visual and theoretical.
Drawings, video, photography. Av do Contorno – original perimeter of the planned city.
W.H. Murray – The Scottish Himalayan Expedition
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness…the moment one definitely commits oneself then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one, that would otherwise never have occured. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man would have believe would come his way.”
Goethe, “Action has magic, grace, and power in it.”
Steffania invites us out to meet her sister in Sta. Tereza.
We have a great time!
I do really like the idea of editing each others photos, to give each other the raw photos and edit and elect them.
What are the stories of this city?
There are fireworks and honking and people shouting and cheering in the streets. I think its a football game but it feels like general revelry in the streets.
Make drawings from some things that don’t work as photos. Visual notes representing ideas or general feelings.
Take photos of the lobby and the building, including archival images. I should also be writing every day as well as editing photos. I’d also like to write an addendum to the initial application as well as process my handwritten notes from my book. Perhaps talking my field notes like a story may be a better approach for me.
